Hello, I'm Snowy, and this is the first eddition, of the Feed.-
Stanford University researchers, like Adobe, are working on a 3D camera system that could capture and process images with depth. The system uses a multi-lens camera and a special chip that processes the data.
By taking the picture in 16x16 pixel pieces (subarrays), the processing chip can determine the relative depth between two objects in the picture.
It isn't perfect and we probably won't see it in a consumer camera for a long time, but it could help pave the way toward multi-lens digital cameras and higher picture quality.
The errant spy satellite that was potentially going to dump 1,000 pounds of toxic hydrazine fuel upon an impact with Earth was successfully shot down last night by an Aegis NAVY cruiser northwest of Hawaii. The impact occurred at approximately 10:30pm Pacific at 153 nautical miles above Earth as the wayward decomposing orbit had the satellite traveling 17,000 mph and may not have burned up completely once it entered the thicker parts of our atmosphere.
Speculation that this was a test mission for the missile defense system that the US is developing were rebuffed by the Pentagon as well as rumors that it was being shot down because it had information on it that was sensitive to our national security.
No matter what the reason, it's pretty sweet that we got it considering all the cash that went into it.
Apple is dropping the price of their 1GB iPod Shuffle to $49 and later this month a 2GB version will be available for $69.
Expect the new version to be available in all of the fun colors of the 1GB, including a RED version that donates to AIDS research.
Sony To Change The Way You Speak
And lastly- At the game developers' conference yesterday, Sony and Vivox announced they'd established a partnership to create a new suite of awesome voice capabilities for online games.
Players will be able to access voice mail, voice fonts to synthesize player voices into in-game character voices, and the ability to receive external calls in SOE games.
The idea is, everyone online will use it, so rather than typing "Sup?" at that elf dude in Everquest 2, you can say "Sup?" into your headset and he'll hear you. Pretty cool.
The new advancements will come standard with SOE games, but also be free to use on any other game. Which is awesome.
"We're proud to offer this level of communication power and flexibility to gamers. These new voice services not only replace many of the voice chat options currently available but add a broad range of capabilities that streamline communication and empower gamers to maintain their online relationships in both the real and virtual worlds," said John Smedley, President of Sony Online Entertainment. "We are giving gamers the ultimate one-stop shop to stay in touch at all times."
Well that's all for today folks- thanks for reading. Again, this is Snowy- And you've just been fed.
